Greetings, my friends. Si habéis llegado hasta aquí es porque me conocéis, así que poco más que decir. Si no me conocéis es que Internet da más miedo cada vez.

En cualquier caso...

SPN Rising Con. Barcelona – 12th and 13th June 2010

Intro

Okay, at last. I know and I apologize. I’ve been stalling this moment until now, because I knew it would take me ages to write a recap of THE CON. And it has, indeed. According to my notes, I began drafting it at 11.47AM…24th June 2010!

Oh, well. Let’s do it.

First things first. For the sake of convenience, the dreaded recap will be divided into several entries, covering one or more than one event each. I think it will make it easier and less boring to read. But don’t let that fool you. It is still way too long for your own good. The entries will also have videos embedded (some of them mine, some of them borrowed from youtube), which means I’m likely to mess everything up.

Please bear with me ;)

Of course, these are going to be the most boring series of entries ever if you don’t watch AND love SPN. So really, if that’s not the case, don’t even try. Same thing goes for those of you who do watch and kind of like SPN, but haven’t seen it all yet. I’m afraid it is impossible to go through the several questions the actors where asked without spoilers *glups*.

Sorry, JM. See? You’re saved from the torture.

Finally, I’m writing this in English, because that’ll make it readable for a wider range of people, but I’m also warning you: this isn’t beta’ed. Plus I am really not going to let grammar and stuff bother me “too much”, at the risk of never getting it done.

Alright, kiddos, done with captatio benevolentiae!!

This is what we’re talking about:

Event: SPN Rising Convention

Place: Hotel Barceló, Barcelona, (SPAIN)

Dates: 12th and 13th June 2010

Guests: Jensen Ackles, Jared Pada…Pada-something (^_^), Misha Collins, Samantha Ferris and Jim Beaver. In other words: Dean, Sam, Castiel, Ellen and Bobby.

Once upon a time…

I learnt about the Con in October, during the Sitges International Cinema Festival. A friend off-handedly commented that he had seen this flyer in the press room about a Convention of a show… Supernatural. I don’t think I’ve ever looked so much as a looney toon as I did then: wide-eyed gaze, jaw dropping… the full picture. Because it’s been FIVE years of my life, and over 400,000 words, and you keep reading and hearing stuff about Cons all over the world but you never ever expected them to come to your city, of all places.

Kudos to BCN, yay!

So yeah, I did the whole “Come again…? A what….? Where…? You gotta be kidd- OF COURSE I KNOW THE SHOW. No way… No.Way. OMG OMG OMG” thing. I’m not ashamed to say it!

Only Jared and Samantha had confirmed their assistance at the time, but that didn’t discourage me, as I was still flabbergasted at the whole Con + Barcelona concept. You US friends probably don’t understand, but conventions are a rare event here. Actually I don’t think I had heard of one before. So Dean wasn’t coming? A shame, but Sam would be here and that was good enough!

One thing is true, I was stupid enough to underestimate the eagerness of my fellow country-geeks and I conservatively decided to wait until after Christmas before I bought a pass. I will never make the same mistake twice. Because, in December, Jensen was announced… and all Hell broke loose.

Long story short, I couldn’t get the top level pass (Golden) because they were sold out, and I got myself a Silver Pass. I won’t go into the differences between the different types of passes. At the end of the day, you could do practically the same if you spent more money and bought the photo ops that weren’t included separately. You also got a seat closer to the stage with Golden Passes, but that was alright. Since I was usually in line to ask questions to the poor guests, I was standing up in the sidelines most of time, so I got to see them pretty well.

And the day came…

June 11th was my birthday. And let me tell you, I’ve been depressed by birthdays since age 24, but THIS YEAR I couldn’t care less.

I went to pick up our passes and vouchers with a friend, who looked like a deer caught in the headlights. Being a “normal” person as she is (as far away of any fandom as it gets), the poor sweetie found herself suddenly surrounded my hundreds of people from all over the world. But the excitement floating in the air was undeniable. People meeting people they only knew the screen name of, pen-friends reuniting, girls who smiled knowingly when you hummed Dead or Alive…

One word: home ^_^

For the record, I didn’t know anyone there, since I’ve never been into the Spanish fandom and I don’t do boards or discussions forums. I guess I could, it’s probably very nice. I just don’t have more time to devote to this obsession of mine, and the time I do have I prefer to use for writing.

Aaaanyhow, we got our passes, scooped the terrain a bit, I bought a couple of glass…coasters? (just looked that up, the thing you use to put under a glass…and it was also made of glass :P). There were too cute, I’ll show you.

And then we went home, and waited for morning to come.

I barely slept!! But I blame the several cokes I had during my birthday celebrations. So what if since I wasn’t sleeping I was thinking non-stop about Ican’tbelievemyDean&Sammyaregoingtobehereforreal? Cause and consequence, guys, not the other way around.

Now, if you really think you want to keep reading (see disclaimers above), go ahead. On the contrary, if you just want a glimpse into some funny moments of the Con, I found this video for you, of the boys goofing around in the last J2 panel on Sunday.

The author is wik1258, so kudos for her J

Enjoy,
